Dr. Chain received his D.D.S. from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil) in 1987 and completed an endodontic practice residency at the graduate school of the same University in 1988.

He received a Maste's degree in Biomaterials from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (1994) and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at that same institution (1997). He is the head of the Department of Biomaterials and coordinates a graduate program in Biomaterials at the University Federal of Santa Catarina in Brazil, as well as two other residency programs in esthetic dentistry at private institutions.

Dr. Chain has published several articles in different dentistry research topics. He is author and co-author of nine books in the subject of esthetic dentistry, being given more than 500 lectures in Brazil and 43 other countries. He maintains a dental practice in Florianòpolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
